About the Cystic Fibrosis Fund of Berks County
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited, life-threatening disease that affects the
lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in
the United States, including over 1,500 people in Pennsylvania.
The Cystic Fibrosis Fund of Berks County was established in 2018 with
the mission to improve the quality and length of life for individuals in
our community with CF. Through a partnership with Berks County
Community Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Fund is able to assist local
families with individualized treatment and to help fund drug research
and specialized treatment.
Through the support of community-based events such as the
Valentine’s Gala, the life expectancy of a child with CF has doubled in
the last 30 years and the quality of life for people with CF
continues to improve at an ever more rapid pace. The Cystic Fibrosis
Fund aims to support Cystic Fibrosis patients in our community with treatment costs, medical equipment costs and research to
find a cure.
To qualify, an individual must:
• Be a Berks County resident
• Be diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis
• Be unable to pay for the costs of required treatment/equipment/expenses
• Obtain confirmation of diagnosis from a medical provider
• Obtain confirmation of need of requested item/service from social worker or specialist
• Provide explanation of how the requested item/service will enhance or improve the quality of life
Expenses that may be covered include both direct and indirect medical expenses and necessary, but ancillary, expenses related to Cystic Fibrosis treatment.
